South India has a unique charm of its own. Endless swathes of coconut palms sway behind sunlit beaches; fishermen bring in catches from the sea as women in silk saris and flowers in their hair, head for bazaars for their daily shopping. On the backwaters of Kerala, children go to school by water taxis, while in Chennai, students of ancient dance forms and theatre practice their traditional daily routine under the spreading branches of enormous trees. In this southern part of India, soaring temple spires are decorated with colorful images of hundreds of Gods, and there are temples as large as cities. |
